The Intro to Oceans unit was created specifically for the first week of school. It gives an overview of the course. Working through this short and easy unit is a good chance to work on classroom procedures as far as note-taking, quizzes, daily bellringers, etc.
Materials List:
Large maps with lat & long, one for each group - (example) for Puzzle Challenge
Card stock paper, optional (if you plan to hang on wall) - for Turtle Activity
Poster graphing paper or regular poster paper, optional - for group graphing all year (example of graph paper, example of poster paper roll, there are many size options)

HS-ESS2-5 – Analyze data on interactions between atmosphere, hydrosphere, and biosphere

SC.912.P.8.2 – Differentiate between physical and chemical properties and physical and chemical changes of matter.
SC.912.P.10.4 – Describe heat as the energy transferred by convection, conduction, and radiation, and explain the connection of heat to change in temperature or states of matter.
SC.912.E.6.1 – Describe and differentiate the layers of Earth and the interactions among them.
SC.912.E.6.4 – Analyze how specific geologic processes and features are expressed in Florida and elsewhere.
SC.912.E.7.5 – Predict future weather conditions based on present observations and conceptual models and recognize limitations and uncertainties of such predictions.
Course Syllabus
